28 Trawlermen's Memorial, Hull

Hull was shaped by the fishing industry, yet during the last three decades traces of the port's fishing heritage have all but disappeared.  We entered a design competition to create a memorial to the 6,000 trawlermen from Hull who have lost their lives during the last 100 years.

Our scheme was designed to evoke different emotions for different circumstances realting to the fishing industry:

The roof may echo the pitch and roll of a trawler at sea; from certain angles the curves will subtly reflect that of a boat; from others the roof could represent a fish; to some it will replicate the movement of the sea, especially as one walks or drives by, as the structure changes constantly.
