09 Loft Conversion, Brandesburton

Brandesburton Hall, Grade II listed. Complete 2011.

Ettridge Architecture's involvement with Brandesburton Hall dates back to 2005 when it was converted into flats.

This latest scheme is a loft conversion to one of the flats. All that can be seen externally is a new barrel-vaulted dormer window. Such a simple sounding scheme required Planning and Listed Building Approvals, including specialist heritage statements, plus various negotiations with Building Control to attain the correct balance between 'heritage' and 'regulation'.

The end result is stunning and questions the logic for not using roof spaces to their full potential (house builders are still doing it today!?!).
